Five Mile Woods: Nature Walks
  • Sunday, September 22
    12:00 PM—3:30 PM
  • Embrace the change of seasons with a guided nature walk at the scenic Five Mile Woods nature preserve on Sunday, September 22. From 12 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., participants of all ages are invited to discover the early signs of fall, explore the diverse plant life, and learn about the fascinating animals that call this 300-acre woodland home.

Whether you're a seasoned nature enthusiast or just looking for a peaceful afternoon outdoors, the Friends of Five Mile Woods have curated a series of walks that will captivate and inspire. Stroll along our newly constructed 700-foot accessible boardwalk, designed for visitors of all abilities, and immerse yourself in the beauty of this preserved natural haven. For those eager to explore further, additional trails with uneven surfaces offer a more rugged experience—just be sure to wear sturdy shoes that can handle a bit of mud!

Nestled in Lower Makefield Township, Five Mile Woods is more than just a park—it's a sanctuary where the Atlantic Coastal Plain meets the Piedmont region, offering a unique ecological experience right in our community's backyard. Often referred to as Lower Makefield’s “hidden gem,” Five Mile Woods was prominently featured in the Township’s Play for All Plan, which underscored the importance of conservation and sustainability as key community values. The preserve is envisioned as a hub for environmental education and programming, with potential extensions into day camps, senior activities, and more.

Moreover, Five Mile Woods is a proud participant in Lower Makefield Township’s ADA Transition Plan, ensuring that all residents can enjoy the tranquility and natural beauty of the preserve. The recent enhancements, including the accessible boardwalk, are part of our ongoing commitment to making the park welcoming to everyone.

Join us at Woods Headquarters, located at 1305 Big Oak Road, near the Kohl’s shopping center, for an afternoon of exploration and discovery. Don’t miss this opportunity to connect with nature, learn something new, and appreciate the wonders of autumn in Lower Makefield.
