The Bucks County Department of Health (BCDH) is proposing to conduct a treatment for adult mosquitoes on Monday September 14th beginning at 7:30PM. The rain date will be Tuesday September 15th.
The event is set to occur in:
- Middletown Township: Neighborhoods of Laurel Oaks, Highland Gate, and Cider Knoll
- There are no treatments proposed in Lower Makefield; however, due to the proximity of the treatment location we wanted to make Lower Makefield residents aware.
Treatment is being conducted due to the presence of West Nile Virus (WNV) observed in mosquitoes from within these specified areas and high numbers of Culex species of mosquitoes. This species is known to transmit WNV. The treatment will begin at approximately 7:30 PM and continue to approximately 10:30PM.
For your knowledge: Those who may contract WNV, approximately 80% will have no symptoms at all (asymptomatic).
20% will develop mild symptoms (called West Nile fever) and includes fever, body aches, fatigue, and headaches.
Less than 1% will develop severe neurological illness such as encephalitis (swelling of the brain).
Please note that this treatment is conducted when there is a potential risk of West Nile Virus being transmitted to residents. All operations are strategically planned to ensure a targeted and effective approach to reducing adult mosquito populations. If residents contact you for information, feel free to forward them to me. However, please inform them that treatment areas cannot be expanded.
