Lower Makefield Township Parks and Recreation Hosts Parks for Pollinators BioBlitz Events in September
Yardley, PA – August 29, 2025 – Lower Makefield Township Parks and Recreation is excited to invite the community to participate in the National Parks for Pollinators BioBlitz this September. This fun, educational initiative, organized by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), encourages residents to explore local natural areas and document pollinator species, contributing to a nationwide conservation effort.
The Township will host a series of programs at Five Mile Woods Preserve (1305 Big Oak Rd., Yardley, PA) and the Native Plant Demonstration Garden (adjacent to the Township Building, 1100 Edgewood Rd., Yardley, PA). Participants can join guided “general survey” walks, or may explore independently using the iNaturalist app, which helps identify plants and pollinators such as bees, butterflies, and bats.
Scheduled Events:
General Survey Walks – Five Mile Woods Preserve:
- Saturday, 9/6/25 – 10:00 AM
- Saturday, 9/13/25 – 1:00 PM (after Friends of FMW workday)
- Sunday, 9/21/25 – 2:00 PM (during Fall Open House)
- Saturday, 9/27/25 – 10:00 AM
Evening Moth Nights – Five Mile Woods Preserve (weather permitting):

- Saturday, 9/13/25 – 8:00 PM
Each event will include a brief introduction to the Preserve, an overview of the BioBlitz and iNaturalist app, and a guided exploration to maximize pollinator documentation opportunities. Families and individuals of all ages are encouraged to participate.
Residents are encouraged to attend scheduled events or explore the Preserve on their own throughout September. All observations submitted via iNaturalist during the month will count toward the BioBlitz.
