Energy Transfer/Sunoco Pipeline Leak in Upper Makefield Township

Lower Makefield Township officials are aware of the recent pipeline leak reported in Upper Makefield Township involving Energy Transfer infrastructure.

At their meeting on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, the Lower Makefield Township Board of Supervisors adopted Resolution 25-07 calling for comprehensive remediation, preventative measures, a full review of pipeline integrity throughout the region, and the immediate shutdown of the subject pipeline until independent verification of its safety is completed.

Next Meeting:  A meeting with Energy Transfer/Sunoco, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), and the United States Department of Transportation's Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2025 at 7:30 p.m. at Sol Feinstone Elementary School, 1090 Eagle Road, Newtown, PA 18940.

Please note that the pipeline is subject to oversight by the DEP and PHMSA. Contact information for these agencies and the Pennsylvania Department of Health can be found here. PHMSA issued a Notice of Proposed Safety Order on February 13, 2025. DEP issued a Notice of Violation on February 18, 2025.
