Part Time (Substitute)/ Seasonal (School Year) Crossing Guard
Lower Makefield Township is seeking responsible, dependable, and community-minded individuals to serve as substitute This on-call position provides coverage when full-time crossing guards are unavailable. Substitute crossing guards play a critical role in protecting children and ensuring safe pedestrian crossings to and from school.
This is a flexible, community-focused role ideal for individuals looking for part-time, as-needed work that truly makes a difference.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Respond to on-call assignments when coverage is needed.
- Assist school children and pedestrians in safely crossing roadways.
- Monitor traffic flow and roadway conditions at assigned posts.
- Identify and report hazardous or unsafe conditions to proper authorities.
- Maintain and properly use all safety equipment provided.
- Follow traffic laws and departmental procedures.
- Act professionally when interacting with children, parents, and the public.
- Work under the supervision of the Police Department.
- Report dangerous situations to school officials or Police personnel.
Working Conditions
- Outdoor work in all weather conditions.
- Standing for extended periods of time.
- Working near and along active roadways.
- Flexible, on-call scheduling based on coverage needs.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Must pass a background investigation.
- Ability to stand and walk for long periods.
- Good vision and hearing.
- Ability to remain alert and calm in high-traffic situations.
- Ability to understand and follow traffic laws and instructions.
- Must be able to hold and use a handheld stop sign.
- Strong judgement and situational awareness.
- Ability to communicate clearly in English.
- Calm, professional demeanor.
- Physically capable of working in outdoor conditions.
Equipment & Training
- All required safety equipment and uniforms provided.
- Training provided by the Police Department.
- Reflective safety gear and traffic control equipment issued.

Full-Time Public Works Mechanic
The Lower Makefield Township Department of Public Works has an immediate opening for a full-time public works mechanic. Interested applicants must have the ability and willingness to work overtime, including mandatory availability for all forecasted winter and severe weather emergency events.
Applicants are expected to be self-motivated with strong organization and leadership traits. General duties include but are not limited to service, repair and maintenance of all Township owned vehicles, trucks, and equipment. This includes all light and heavy-duty gasoline and diesel, equipment and machinery. Maintaining inventory of replacement and repair parts. Maintaining records on all vehicle and equipment maintenance. Maintaining inventory and required documentation/inspections for Township owned and operated gasoline and diesel fueling systems. Performing PA State Inspections on Township owned vehicles. Qualified applicants must have a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A (or ability to obtain within 1 year) and a Class 7 PA Certified Vehicle Safety Inspector License (or ability to obtain within 1 year). Salary and benefits shall be in accordance with the most current Collective Bargaining Agreement.
