Elizabeth Ogelby Girton Abrams
Elizabeth Ogelby Girton Abrams
1849-1918
Elizabeth was born on 11/21/1849 to parents Jane Spicer and John Girton. Her father John was born in LMT and her mother Jane was born in Philly (1). Both parents are buried here at Slate Hill just 3 markers down from Elizabeth.
Elizabeth had one brother, Moses and two sisters Anna Eliza Girton South and Marie Caroline Girton. Marie Caroline sadly died at age 13. Both sisters are buried here, on either side of their parents. (2)
Elizabeth married William John Abrams in 1867 (3). William had a variety of careers including a sewing machine agent and a harness maker. Later he took over his father in law’s job and worked as a Canal Superintendent. (4) In 1898 the local paper referenced him as “as genial and good natured as the day is long, and is not running for an office either.” (5) How funny is that?!?! William John Abrams is buried right here beside Elizabeth.
They had 8 children, 3 of whom survived into adulthood; Benjamin Franklin Abrams (1870–1943), John Girton Abrams (1876–1940) and Anna South Abrams Haven (1886–1975) (4)
He passed away in August 1906. (4) One can only imagine the sadness felt at losing such an endearing man. After being widowed, Elizabeth lived with her son John and his wife Beulah in LMT (6) She passed away 4/7/1918 of pneumonia (1).
You can see pictures of Elizabeth and her husband William below.
