Senior Center

Lower Makefield Seniors

The big news for The Lower Makefield Seniors is we are on the way to having a "home".  The Senior/Community Center is coming to fruition through a grant from the State of Pennsylvania, and The Lower Makefield Supervisors have voted to match the funding with land the Township currently owns.  Our thanks to Rep. Santarsiero, the Lower Makefield Board of Supervisors, Terry Fedorchak, Township Manager, Joe Menard, LMT Budget Commission, and the Lower Makefield Seniors Center Committee for working together to bring to our dreams to a reality.

Discussions with an architect will begin shortly.

The Center will allow us to expand our activities, and time availability.  The Supervisors voted to locate The Center on The Samost Tract, which is on Oxford Valley Road, between Edgewood and Roelofs Road.  This location is perfect for The Seniors and the community, because it is centrally located, near the pool, library, police, ambulance, and the tax office, which will enhance the "community" feel.  The Center will provide social opportunities for seniors to rekindle acquaintances and friendships and make new friends.

Current activities offered include "Games Day", bridge, trivia, art lessons, bocce, book club, both day and overnight trips, monthly Friendship Brunch, holiday celebrations, golf, keyboard orchestra, line dancing, low impact exercises, bowling, balance workshops, picnics, and free tax preparation.

We look forward to new activities, while continuing our current ones," says Gail McPhaden, President.  "During the past year, we have added programs including balance classes, Tai Chi, Mahjongg, and Wellness."We plan activities such as billiards, table tennis, Wii, lecture series, educational classes, support groups, nutritional programs, and special interest groups, when The Center is available".

Members of the group strive to give back to the Community throughout the year.  Our "Give to the Community" Program includes donating items to deployed members of the military through "Support the Troops", serving refreshments at The Veterans Day Parade, knitting hand-made stump socks and afghans for disabled Veterans, collecting for The First Presbyterian Food Bank and donating hand-made items to The Morrisville Head Start Program.

In 2012 we had successful Fundraising activities, including The Mother's Day Flower Show and The Fall Arts and Crafts Boutique.

For more information about the LMT Seniors visit www.lmt.org/seniors.htm or call Gail McPhaden, 215 493-1180.  All seniors are welcome to join.
